About Us

Bijou, defined as something small and delicately worked, is an online studio space that adheres to the needs of local designer-makers operating as slow fashion practitioners in start-ups and small businesses in Aotearoa New Zealand. It aims to educate, communicate and validate on the culture of slow fashion and small-scale entrepreneurship as well as support and promote designer-makers that fit into that ethos. The theoretical framework that guides Bijou focuses on outlining how New Zealand designer-makers can be slow practitioners and how slow fashion can be beneficial to them by adding perceived to their brands. It is our goal to provide tools, resources and knowledge to aid in starting up and sustaining a small fashion business.

While our primary goal is to provide useful resources to those wishing to start their own small-scale fashion labels, Bijou Studio is also a blog, an ongoing collaboration, and a retail store. On our blog, we showcase local practitioners who align with our Mission Statement; our designer section tells the stories of our designers whose items you can by in our retail store.
